Motorola Lightning Board Installation and Operation Instructions
INSTALLATION OF THE MOTOROLA LIGHTNING BOARD OR MLB IS A SIMPLE PROCESS. YOU WILL NEED AN 8 TO 10 FOOT COPPER GROUND ROD, WIRE CLAMP, 6 TO 10 GAUGE SOLID COPPER WIRE, STRANDED HOOKUP WIRE OR MIRC-24 OR 36 ADAPTER CABLE ASSY, DRILL WITH 1/4” BIT, AND CENTER PUNCH. STEP 1. INSTALL GROUND ROD PER ENCLOSED GROUND ROD INSTRUCTION SHEET. WRITE UP A WIRING PLAN SO THAT YOUR FIELD WIRING AND CONTROLLER WIRING WILL BE NEAT AND ORGANIZED. FOR MULTIPLE BOARD INSTALLATIONS, USE EACH STEP FOR ALL THE BOARDS. STEP 2. CONFIGURE YOUR BOARD LAYOUT IN YOUR ENCLOSURE AND TAPE DOWN THE DRILL TEMPLATE PROVIDED WITH YOUR MLB PACKAGE. CENTER PUNCH EACH MOUNTING HOLE AT EACH CORNER, THEN DRILL YOUR (4) 9/32” MOUNTING HOLES. STEP 3. FROM THE BACK SIDE OF THE MOUNTING SURFACE PUSH THROUGH A BOLT WITH A LOCK WASHER ON IT, THEN THREAD ON THE 7/8” STANDOFF. MAKE SURE THE STANDOFF IS ON THE FRONT OF THE MOUNTING SURFACE. REPEAT FOR ALL (4) STANDOFF ASSEMBLIES. STEP 4. WITH THE REMAINING (4) BOLTS, ATTACH THE BOARD TO THE STANDOFFS. SNUG THE BOLTS DOWN, BUT DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN. STEP 5. WIRE THE BOARD TO THE CONTROLLER USING THE STRANDED WIRE OR THE MIRC ADAPTER CABLE ASSY. ALL OF THE FOLLOWING CONNECTIONS WILL BE MADE TO THE GREEN TERMINAL STRIP LABEL P2 “ TO CONTROLLER”. MAKE SURE TO LABEL ALL YOUR WIRES. AT THE CONTROLLERS TERMINAL STRIP, USE AN OHM METER TO DETEMINE WHICH XFMR TERMINAL EQUALS THE COMMON, YOU’LL GET ZERO OHMS AT THE CORRECT TERMINAL. LABEL THE OTHER XFMR TERMINAL 24VAC. CONNECT THIS TERMINAL TO THE “24VAC” AT P2. (THIS STEP PROVIDES POWER FOR MANUAL OPERATION AND 24VAC AUXILIARY POWER. IF THESE OPTIONS ARE NOT DESIRED DO NOT MAKE CONNECTIONS TO THE 24VAC TERMINAL OF P2.) CONNECT THE CONTROLLER COMMON TO “C/PG” TERMINAL. CONNECT THE CONTROLLERS OUTPUT ZONE WIRES IN GROUPS OF 8 TO THE “1-8” TERMINALS MATCHING UP ZONE FOR ZONE. CONTROLLERS OVER 8 STATIONS WILL REQUIRE MULTIPLE CABLE ASSEMBLIES OR WIRING HARNESSES. CONNECT YOUR CORRESPONDING INPUTS FOR DATA COLLECTION TO THE IN1 AND IN2 TERMINALS. STEP 5. CONNECT YOUR GROUND ROD WIRE TO THE LARGE TERMINAL LABELED GND. CONNECT THE FIELD COMMON, AND FIELD ZONE WIRES TO THE BLACK TERMINAL STRIP LABEL P1 “TO VALVES”. MAKE SURE YOU CORRESPOND THESE CONNECTIONS TO YOUR CONTROLLER CONNECTIONS. AGAIN, MAKE SURE TO LABEL ALL YOUR WIRES. IF YOU NEED TO OPERATE ANY OTHER DEVISES OUTSIDE OF THE ENCLOSURE, CONNECT THESE TO THE 24VAC AUXILIARY POWER OUTPUT AND “C” OF P1. BOARD OPERATION: THE MLB IS DESIGNED TO AUTO RESET AFTER SHUNTING AN ELECTRICAL SURGE TO GROUND. IF THE BOARD IS BURNT OR CHARRED IN ANY WAY, REPLACE IT OR HAVE IT REPAIRED. THE 2 AMP SLOW BLO FUSE IS IN PLACE TO PROTECT THE TRANSFORMER FROM DAMAGED DEVISES CONNECTED TO THE AUXILIARY POWER OUTPUT, AND AGAINST EXCESSIVE POWER OUT DURING “MANUAL OPERATIONS”. THE 3 POSITION SLIDE SWITCHES LABELED SW1 - SW8 PERFORM 3 OPERATIONS. IN THE “AUTO” POSITION, THE CONTROLLER HANDLES THE OUTPUT ZONE OPERATIONS. THE “OFF” POSITION DISABLES THE OUTPUT ZONE FROM OPERATING. THE “MANUAL” POSITION MANUALLY TURNS ON THE OUTPUT ZONE AND WILL RUN IT AS LONG AS THE SWITCH IS IN THE “MANUAL” POSITION. PLEASE NOTE THE DC MODELS DO NOT HAVE MODE SWITCHES FOR THE OUTPUTS.
